The Power of Brassicas

Brassicas are known to be some of the most nutritious veggies available.

So, what are they and what makes them so good for you?

Kale and broccoli are probably the most popular ones,

and you’re probably familiar with some of the others too –

cabbage

cauliflower,

bok choy,

collard greens

arugula

mustard greens

Brussel sprouts,

kohlrabi

radishes

turnips

They’re called brassicas because they are in the Brassica (Brassicaceae) family of vegetables.

Brassicas are known to be really good for you.

They’re loaded with something nearly no other fruits or vegetables contain – glucosinolates.

These glucosinolates do amazing things for our bodies…

Research shows they have strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

This means they actually help protect our cells from disease-causing damage.

Isn’t that awesome?!

And that’s not all.

They contain high amounts of vitamins and minerals.

Here’s some mentioned with a quick google search:

  • Vitamins A, C, E, and K
  • Folate, calcium, iron, potassium and phosphorus
  • Great source of soluble fiber too

Brassicas are credited for protecting us against some common cancers and cardiovascular diseases.

They’re a good vegetable to eat. 😉

That’s how the Power Mix got its name.

The Power Mix is made up of the following:

  • Mizuna
  • Red mustard
  • Pac Choi
  • Lettuce Blend

The Mizuna has a similar taste to arugula, a slight peppery kick.

You either love it or hate it.

We love the added flavor it gives a salad.

It’s actually one of our favorites.

My kids make “power roll ups”.

There’s absolutely nothing good about store bought processed flour tortillas and cream cheese,

but when you add some power mix, roll it up, and eat it –

That’s an acceptable snack around here.

I’m always looking for ways to add more nutrition and flavor to our meals.

Pair this salad blend with Micro Meadows Maple Balsamic and you won’t be able to get enough.

It’s so good!

The hot summer bugs like it too, so it’s usually available in the spring and fall.
